Trial by Jury
Can you take someone to court for breaking off an engagement at the last moment? In this hilariously ludicrous one-act operetta, the jilted Angelina does just that! Her former fiancé, and defendant, Edwin has fallen in love with another woman. The Jury sides with Angelina and in response, the fickle Edwin proposes that to resolve the issue he should “marry this lady today and the other tomorrow”. Unsurprisingly, Angelina objects and decides to marry the Judge instead!
Originally written to accompany Offenbach’s La Périchole, Trial by Jury provides fun and frantic entertainment for all.
This is a concert performance and local singers are invited to join the chorus for this performance, interested singers should contact mike@operaanywhere.com for more information.
Iolanthe
Prepare for pandemonium with this brand new production from Opera Anywhere! This ingeniously witty and magical operetta is a tale of forbidden love between fairies and mortals – peers of the House of Lords, no less! Strephon is the half-fairy, half-mortal son of the fairy Iolanthe and has fallen in love with Phyllis, a ward of the court. But for them to marry, Phyllis needs the Lord Chancellor’s permission, which is going to be tricky as he hopes to marry her himself – as do half the house of Lords! It’s Gilbert & Sullivan at their satirical best poking fun at power, privilege and parliamentary democracy.
Suitable for all ages, this opera is sure to leave you laughing and whistling all the way home.
