Gather together to experience an old story, for new times.
Choirs, musicians, local villages and schools in East Suffolk have come together to bring Benjamin Britten’s world-famous interpretation of Noye’s story to life. In this unique opera project, young people, musicians and community members take centre stage, alongside Sizewell C construction workers, helping build the Ark.
Repurposed and regenerated materials appear in the natural woodland setting of Thorington Theatre, for an experience deeply grounded in the Suffolk landscape.
Noye’s tale calls for us to come together in the face of impending climate crisis. In the collective stronghold of the Ark, we can weather what is overwhelming, and celebrate the strength of community and sustainability - our rainbow coming to life in the name of creative gathering.
When it was first written and performed in 1958, Noye’s Fludde defined a new genre of community opera for the villages in and around Leiston. This summer, we are delighted to bring it home.
