Thorington Theatre is privileged to host Mr Darwin’s Tree. This compelling 75 minute performance focuses on the relationship between Darwin, an agnostic, and his wife Emma, a Christian. It was commissioned for the bicentenary of Darwin's birth and premiered in Westminster Abbey; it has since toured the world educating and entertaining not only Darwin enthusiasts but all of us.

The thought-provoking debate between Darwin and his wife touches on science, religion, love and the nature of existence, topics that are as relevant today as ever before, and is spellbindingly performed by the immensely talented Andrew Harrison.

Harrison portrays the dozen or so characters seamlessly and effortlessly.

This is a must-see production that drew capacity crowds for its performances in Cambridge. Thoroughly recommended.

The acting was so spellbinding that focusing on the actor’s craft one missed the nuances of a beautifully crafted text by Murray Watts. Conversely focusing on the text risked missing a glance, a single gesture, or change in vocal register that added so much to this masterful performance. Supported by a spare but effective sound track the audience left marvelling at a portrait of Darwin so movingly created in sound and image
