Luke Wright: On Form

Presented by Luke Wright

Running time: 1 hour 40 minutes, including a 20 minute interval.

Suitable for all.

charity. comedy. family. live music. opera. play. poetry. storytelling.

Luke Wright is on form. Watch him as he rattles through a range of poetic structures (sonnet ballad, single vowel poems and more) from the romantic to the ridiculous. Wright bends language to his will and the results entertain even the most hardened poetry-hater.

Once you impose form on thought and feeling it begins to shape it. The rules of the form render the writer unable to say exactly what he damn well pleases. The work is pulled in strange and wonderful directions.

How then do the forms in which we exist, the structures of class, wealth and place, affect the people we become? Luke delves deeper into his childhood in middle class suburbia and the one he might have had in inner London if he’d not been adopted. Don’t come expecting answers.

“Breathtaking … with a sharpness and wisdom that lifts the soul, and soothes the battered heart.” ★★★★ The Scotsman
