Fire From Heaven
Written and directed by Murray Watts
Performed by Andrew Harrison
From the producers of last summer’s smash hit, “Mr. Darwin’s Tree”, comes a companion piece equal in its power to entertain, move and inspire. A brilliant new show about a story which changed the world for all of us.
Andrew Harrison is magnificent as he throws the switch on a mesmerising range of characters – people who helped and hindered the discovery of electric power.
This compelling piece of story-telling, illuminates the unlikely career of Michael Faraday, a largely self-taught physicist, whose courage and genius transformed the world.
Michael Faraday (1791-1867) rose from a very humble background to become one of the greatest scientists of all time. His father was a blacksmith and Faraday left school at the age of 12.
His first job was working for Ribeau’s bookshop in Blandford Street. Faraday began to read voraciously. The entry on ‘Electricity’ in the Encyclopaedia Britannica seized his imagination.
At that time the director of the Royal Institution was the illustrious Sir Humphry Davy - a heroic figure to Michael Faraday. Faraday was thrilled to receive tickets from a customer of the bookshop to attend one of Davy’s unforgettable lectures.
And this is where the play begins….
